I just wanted to tell you all about an amazing film show coming up on this Sunday, February 21st. My friend Kerry Laitala is part of a amazing show at the Victoria Theatre in San Francisco. Kerry is an award winning experimental film maker who's work will astound you. She does everything the old fashioned way, by hand, and is one of the most talented and dedicated artists I know.
On Sunday Kerry will be showing a piece called, "Legerdemain" which is the last film in her "Muse of Cinema" series. She will be collaborating with artist Michael Proft who will be the shadow caster/puppet master for the evenings performance. I, too, will be on hand trying not to screw things up as the shadow casters assistant.
I've always loved the experience of watching Kerry's films and being transported back in time. I can imagine her being truly at home in the very beginnings of the film and photography world where the shadows danced and light bounced around a smoky magic screen. Her work is dark and eerie yet always lovely. She also has an awesome sense of humor always seeks in somewhere during her shows.
I'm excited about a night squished together with Avant Garde fun. The other filmmakers screening on Sunday night are Abject Leader(Sally Golding & Joel Stern) from Australia and Bruce McClure from Brooklyn, NY.
This event is Part 4 of a weekend long series called Apparent Motion from SF Cinematheque.
